What's New:
LASIK eye surgery is one of the most commonly performed elective surgical procedures in the United States. With approximately 1.4 million LASIK procedures performed each year, the demand for the procedure has continued to increase. With that demand comes the need for continued advancements in technologies and equipment in laser vision correction.
Dr. Daniel B Goldberg, Director of Refractive/LASIK Surgery, at The Atlantic Laser Vision Center in Little Silver, NJ has a long-standing commitment to providing the most advanced technology for all his procedures, and that’s a great asset for potential patients.
The Atlantic Laser Center uses the WaveScan Wavefront analyzer which can more accurately customize Excimer laser treatments. The WaveScan is estimated to be 25X more accurate than measurements with lenses used in eyeglasses and contact lenses. Dr. Goldberg states that “the results with customized LASIK have elevated the quality of results, and the results with all-laser Femtosecond laser flaps have elevated both the safety and the quality of results. We have reached a new level in LASIK.”
Dr. Goldberg helped introduce the use of IntraLase® in New Jersey, knowing it represented an extraordinary leap in refractive surgery. IntraLase® is more precise and safe than a microkeratome, or mechanical blade, in the critical first step of LASIK: creating the corneal flap. Replacing the microkeratome with IntraLase® gives LASIK patients a critical added safety factor. Now, New Jersey LASIK patients have a safer, more precise alternative to the tiny handheld blade used by most to create the flap.
In addition, the Atlantic Laser Center in Little Silver has continued to upgrade its lasers to provide the latest technologies and the best results. The facility is the first in New Jersey, and one of the first in the US to combine the Intralase Femtosecond all-laser, no-blade flap with the VISX customized Excimer laser platform. “Our system now has been revised to integrate all of the new technology,” Goldberg says, “we have continued to bring the very best LASIK technologies to New Jersey which benefits our patients with safer and more accurate results.” The the latest addition of iris registration theVISX S4 registers the treatment more accurately while delivering more precise customized treatment.
The new technologies qualify the facility as one of only a few centers in New Jersey certified to perform iLASIK. iLASIK is a proprietary procedure performed on American Medical Optic’s (AMO) best equipment-WaveScan, Intralase, and VISX S4 with iris registration and FDA approved custom monovision. In 2007 the FDA approved customVue monovision, which is part of the iLASIK platform. Now all of these technologies-WaveScan, Intralase, VISX S4, and CustomVue monovision have been combined by AMO as iLASIK. As further evidence of the advantages of this technology, the US Air Force, US Navy, and NASA have chosen the iLASIK platform for their pilots and astronauts. All of these major advancements will result in safer, more exact laser vision correction results for patients at the Atlantic Laser Center in Little Silver, New Jersey.

Established in 1998, the Atlantic Laser Vision Center was the first facility of its kind in central and southern New Jersey. Daniel B Goldberg MD, FACS is the Director of Refractive Surgery at the Atlantic Laser Vision Center, which is a part of the comprehensive eye care practice at Atlantic Eye Physicians. Dr. Daniel Goldberg pioneered laser vision correction in New Jersey and has 30 years of experience in refractive surgery. Dr. Goldberg has personally performed over 10,000 LASIK eye surgery procedures. More information on Dr Goldberg and the Atlantic Laser Vision Center can be found online at www.lasiksurgery-nj.com.
Dr Goldberg was the first to bring many technological advances in LASIK to benefit patients in New Jersey. In 1990 he travelled to London and Stockholm to prepare for the FDA approvals for Excimer laser treatment of nearsightedness. Initially, treatment for nearsighted eyes was performed on the surface of the cornea in a procedure called PRK (photo-refractive keratectomy). In the mid 90′s, a new procedure-LASIK was developed. Dr Goldberg was asked to participate in the CRS Study of LASIK which led to FDA approval.
Today, technology is steadily evolving and there are approximately 1.4 million LASIK procedures performed each year in the US. The Atlantic Laser Vision Center is now equipped with the leading technologies used in laser vision correction. Testing is performed with WaveScan and Orbscan to qualify patients as good candidates for LASIK, and the treatments are performed with the Intralase Femtosecond laser to perform a no-blade, all-laser treatment, and the Excimer laser treatment is then performed with computerized custom treatments on the VISX S4 Excimer laser with iris registration, tracking, and Fouriere-domain Wavescan driven custom treatments. Dr Goldberg is excited about the future of laser vision correction at the Atlantic Laser Vision Center, and is proud to have brought together the team and the technology to be the leading LASIK center in our region. Goldberg says, “We are delighted to reach the milestone of 10000 procedures and look forward to providing the best laser vision correction in our region.”

Since the boom of LASIK eye surgery into the main stream market some 17 years ago, many consumers have experienced the freedom of seeing without eyeglasses. As popular as this procedure has been, approximately 20% of people who wear glasses cannot improve their eyesight with LASIK. Dr. Daniel Goldberg of the Atlantic Laser Vision Center is pleased to educate consumers who have been turned down for LASIK that seeing without eyeglasses is possible.
The evolution of comprehensive refractive surgery is opening new doors to those who were once told that better vision through LASIK surgery was not an option for them. A comprehensive refractive surgeon can perform all aspects of vision correction including cornea remodeling and cataract surgery. These procedures may help provide relief and enhanced vision under circumstances when LASIK cannot.
A Comprehensive Refractive Surgeon has skilled expertise in advanced Cataract and Corneal surgery and can offer alternative solutions for vision correction when LASIK has been ruled out. Vision correction through refractive surgery can be achieved through:
• Laser Vision Correction
• Refractive Cataract Surgery
• Implantable Contact Lens (Visian ICL)
• Multifocal and Accommodating IOLs (ReStor and Crystalens)
• Monovision with IOLs or Laser Vision Correction
• Advanced Astigmatism Options (Toric IOLs and Corneal Relaxing Incisions)
• INTACS for Keratoconus
Consumers considering vision correction through surgery should consult with a comprehensive refractive surgeon who is skilled in the broad spectrum of refractive surgery. There are many options available for individuals with thin corneas, cataracts and severe astigmatism. A comprehensive refractive surgeon can help decide which procedure is best.
New Jersey residents who are not candidates for LASIK vision correction are encouraged to visit the office of Dr. Daniel Goldberg, a Comprehensive Refractive Surgeon who is also is one of the top corneal and cataract surgeons in New Jersey.
Dr. Daniel Goldberg specializes in comprehensive refractive surgery including LASIK eye surgery and refractive intraocular lens and cataract surgery. As a member of the elite team of doctors who performed clinical trials of LASIK in its early stages, Dr Goldberg was named by other eye physicians as one of the best doctors in America. His initial research and findings led to the FDA approval of LASIK. Dr Goldberg has 25 years of experience in refractive surgery and has performed over 10,000 LASIK surgery procedures. He recently became the first New Jersey eye surgeon to use the implantable contact lens (ICL) – a new technology to correct nearsightedness in individuals with extremely high prescriptions.
